🪔 Tilak
Vil Keshavpur, Amethi
What is the Tilak ceremony?
The Tilak (also called Roka or Sagai) is the formal engagement ceremony where the bride's family visits the groom's home. A sacred red or saffron mark — the "tilak" — is applied on the groom's forehead by the bride's family, symbolising their acceptance and blessing. Gifts are exchanged, sweets shared, and two families officially become one. Think of it as a sacred, ceremonial "Yes — we are family now."

💛 Haldi
Varanasi
What is the Haldi ceremony?
Haldi means "turmeric" — a sacred golden spice with deep spiritual roots in Indian culture. Family and friends lovingly apply a paste of turmeric, sandalwood, and rose water to the bride and groom's face, arms, and legs. Turmeric is believed to purify the soul, bless the couple with prosperity, and give the skin a beautiful glow. It's a wonderfully joyful, sometimes wonderfully chaotic ceremony — yellow stains are worn as badges of love!

🌿 Mehendi
Varanasi
What is the Mehendi ceremony?
Mehendi (henna) is one of the most anticipated pre-wedding celebrations. Intricate patterns are applied to the bride's hands and feet by skilled artists — often hiding the groom's name within the design. It is said the darker the henna, the deeper the love. The evening fills with music, dancing, and laughter as the bride is surrounded by her closest women. Guests often get small henna designs too!

🎶 Sangeet
Varanasi
What is the Sangeet?
Sangeet means "music together." This is the grand celebration night — a spectacular evening of singing, dancing, and performances where both families unite. Families prepare choreographed Bollywood routines, roast the couple with playful songs, and celebrate late into the night. Think of it as India's answer to a rehearsal dinner — except louder, more colourful, and with infinitely better dancing. Guests are warmly encouraged to join the dance floor!

💍 The Wedding — Vivah
Varanasi — The Sacred City
What happens at a Hindu wedding?
A Hindu wedding (Vivah) is a sacred fire ceremony conducted by a pandit (priest) chanting Vedic mantras — ancient Sanskrit hymns thousands of years old. The ceremony centres on the Agni (sacred fire) as divine witness to all vows.

Key moments to witness:
🔥 Saptapadi — The couple takes seven steps together around the sacred fire, each a lifelong vow: prosperity, strength, wealth, wisdom, children, health, and friendship.
🌸 Jaimala — The couple exchanges flower garlands, accepting each other as life partners.
❤️ Sindoor — The groom places vermilion in the bride's hair — the most sacred moment.
Mangalsutra — A sacred black-and-gold necklace tied around the bride's neck, symbolising their lifelong bond.

Being blessed in Varanasi — one of the world's oldest living cities on the sacred Ganges — makes this extraordinarily auspicious.

Until the big day

Varanasi — City of Light

🕉️ One of the world's oldest living cities

Varanasi (also called Kashi or Benares) sits on the banks of the sacred Ganges in Uttar Pradesh, India. Considered the holiest city in Hinduism — where heaven and earth meet — a wedding blessed here carries a significance like no other.

🌅The Ganges Ghats at dawn are breathtaking — ancient stone steps descending to the river as priests perform the Aarti fire prayer ceremony.
🛕Home to thousands of temples, including the sacred Kashi Vishwanath, dedicated to Lord Shiva — one of the 12 Jyotirlingas.
✈️Nearest airport: Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport (VNS) — well connected from Delhi, Mumbai & major international hubs.
🌡️December weather: pleasantly cool (12–22°C / 54–72°F). Light woollens recommended for evenings by the Ganges.
